Robert asks…
anyone know what flower starts with cori and attracts butterflies?

admin answers:
A carefully planned garden can attract butterflies that sip nectar from many flowers and search for a place to lay their larvae. Butterfly gardens are basically organic gardens that use no chemicals. With this in mind, be sure to create a safety zone for your butterflies. Habitual zones and places where areas of the landscape meet with the tree lines are favorite safe places for them. It is also helpful to find out what kinds of butterflies are native to your area so you can find appropriate plants for them.
Here are some articles for attracting butterflies:

Daniel asks…
What plants/flowers can I plant to encourage butterflies to come around but discourage bees and hornets?
I just want a really pretty flower garden with lots of colorful butterflies and no bees, hornets, wasps (and hopefully no ants, ladybugs, and spiders). However, if any bees or hornets are attracted to the same plants as butterflies, what plants would discourage ALL of them from coming around?

admin answers:
Two plants that are butterfly specific are: Butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa) and multiple cultivars of Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii). However, as you are going to plant these outdoors and this is Mother Nature’s world. There is no way to discourage what you mentioned from visiting aside from paving your yard.

Jenny asks…
Butterflies?
Ok, now this beats all. There are butterfly bushes where I work. A small group of people renting from us complained that the bushes were attracting butterflies (duh!) and that the butterflies were pooping on their cars and they wanted the bushes removed. Does anyone out there know anything about butterflies and if they poop enough to notice? This is so ridiculous that it’s comical! I say replace the bushes with mulberry trees!

admin answers:
I don’t know about butterflies, but I do know that caterpillars poop up a storm. Just just raised one into a beautiful black swallow tail and I had to empty the poop out of it’s cage 3 times a day until he pupated. Anyhow, that is beside the point with the exception that, if butterfly poop is like caterpillar poop then it is just tiny pellets that don’t contain any moisture and would just roll off. Those people are ding dongs and are just looking for something to complain about.

Butterflies are attracted to blues, lavenders, pinks and some yellows.
In the myth of Psyche & Eros recounted in “The Golden Ass”, a brave princess (Psyche) wins an immortal soul for herself and for all humanity – as well as marriage to the god she dares to want (Eros).
Psyche’s symbol is the butterfly – a glowing reminder of her miraculous transformation from mortal to immortal…from lonely princess to fullblown savior, too, seems to me.
There’s also a Cambodian tale of the butterfly as a symbol of the soul’s capacity for eternal rebirth.
